The Black Book Project by Ten 27

Tonight I went to the East Greenbush Library to see an arts and science show called the Black Book Project. The show is a multimedia production which includes images from the Hubble Space Telescope and original jazz compositions written and performed by TEN 27. I liked all of the music. The musicians played the electric cello, keyboards, drums and malletKAT. My favorite photo was of dark matter. More pictures can be viewed by visiting http://hubblesite.org/gallery/

Savvy

Savvy is a great book! I recommend it because it’s full of adventure and creativity. Mississippi’s father gets hurt in a car accident, Mibs Mother and oldest brother, Rocket go to Salina Hope Hospital to see her father. On Mibs 13th birthday, she saw a pink bible supply bus from Salina, so she decided to climb aboard with Will Jr. and Bobbi tagging along behind. Fish, Mibs brother found them on the bus and decided to join them. Lester, the bus driver climbed aboard and started on his way, until he stopped and found the stow-a-ways. Lester was upset, but agreed to let the kids travel with him to Salina. Along the way they came across a broken down car. Lester tried to help Lill, but could not fix the car, so he told her to join them on the bus and she did just that. Lill brought everyone to the diner where she works to get them a bite to eat. When they arrived at the Emerald Truck Stop Diner and Lounge they had a bite to eat and the Great and Powerful Ozzie fired Lill. They got back on the road and found a hotel to spend the night. And with the money Lill had left, she bought food, clothing and swim suits for everyone. The next day Lester had to drop off some money to his boss Carlene, and then Carlene found out that the kids traveling with Lester were reported missing. So Carlene called 911. When the police arrived they spoke with Lester and Lill, and that’s when Will Jr.’s secret was reveled, his father was not the pastor, but a police officer. Once everyone understood the missing understanding, the children were allowed to travel in the pink bible supply bus to Salina Hope Hospital to see Mibs father. When they arrived a Salina Hope Hospital the rest of Mibs family was waiting for them. Mibs finally got to see her father.

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival

We went to the Public Library and found some pictures of the ice castle for my research project. The picture above is of this years castle. This year we went snow tubing at Mt. Pisgah, but it wasn’t much fun because the snow was sticky. After we went tubing we went back to the hotel and went swimming, it was awesome. On Saturday night it was the lighting of the ice castle and when they started to light the fireworks the mast on the pirate ship caught on fire. Then the firemen put out the fire!

In the book, Ice Palace, you are told how the people of Saranac Lake build and arrange the Winter Carnival. Prisoners assist in the building of the ice castle, by cutting blocks out of the lake and stacking them on top of each other using slush mortar. Each year they build a different castle and have different theme. Every year, a new King and Queen are crowned and they get to light the castle and then the fireworks begin. During Winter Carnival the children of the town play games outside in the snow. At end of the carnival the town has a parade.

Blackie the Horse Who Stood Still

This book was about a real horse named Blackie. He stood still because he wanted to capture the beauty of nature. Blackie was so famous that a group of people made a monument in his honor. During his life, Blackie was in the rodeo and part of the mounted patrol at Yosemite National Park. When he retired at age 12 because he had sway-back, Blackie moved to a pasture near the bay, by the Golden Gate Bridge. He lived to be 40 years old and that is very old for a horse. I recommend that people read “Blackie the Horse Who Stood Still.”

Frindle by Andrew Clements

Frindle is a about a boy named Nick who creates a new name for a pen. He calls them frindle. Nick accidently created the new name, by setting down a pen and saying, “here’s your frindle.” I liked the book a little bit.

Getting Snowflake

My friend showed me Webkinz a couple of years ago. We went to the mall with her mom and we went into Hallmark and I saw a polar bear Webkinz, and I got him. I named him Snowflake.
